LESSONS FROM A BUMPER STICKER
Thinking outside of the box today, Bob and I tooled down to Taco Bell to pick-up some lunch. During the drive back, he mentioned a bumper sticker he'd seen recently. This coupled with some advice from a wise saint of God, got me to thinking.
The bumper sticker: "DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU THINK".
The advice: "We've got to pray about things we see or think are not right, rather than talk about them. When we talk, they grow in our minds. If we pray, and cast our cares on God, then He can work."
We need to cast down imaginations and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. It's sad to know when we've seen something, or possibly heard something, or even just imagine something, that we start asking our friends what they think, instead of telling God what we think and searching His word for what He thinks. Let's face it, what He thinks is far above what we think.
If we will turn to the One Who is the Truth, and with His help bring our thoughts to the things He has told us to think about, how much happier and at peace our lives will be. Yes, we'll probably always see and hear and imagine things, but my friend was right, we just add fuel to a fire in our own minds when we talk to each other rather than Jesus.
I don't know about you, but my imagination is awesome! I can absolutely produce a myriad of scenarios in minutes, even seconds. What a playground for Satan when I don't heed the bumper sticker wisdom..."DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU THINK." Or better yet, heed the scripture that clearly spells out what we should think about... "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." -Philippians 4:8
I believe that both the bumper sticker and the advice were from God for me. "In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." (By the way, that scripture is in the Bible three times. Coincidence? I think not.)
Dottie Rambo penned these brilliant words in one of her songs "If it makes you happy to talk about me, tell it to the Lord. He's big enough to handle all my problems. In His own kind of way, He'll take care of me. And, if we sweep around our own back doors, we've got all we can do and more, so don't judge..."
Let's pray for our leaders and each other, and for the faults we may see. Unity is what is going to get the job of soul-winning and the endtime revival done.
...Just a thought!
